Transmission Failure Produces the Following Problems

Swing by Advanced Automotive right away if your SUV, car, or truck is having transmission problems. The sooner we repair the transmission the less damage. If you ignore the problem, the transmission will become completely unresponsive. We will talk more about this below.

Refuses to Go Into Gear

When the transmission starts to malfunction, the problem will only get worse. Consequently, there will come a point when your transmission will no longer go into gear. No matter how many times you shift it into Drive or Reverse, the transmission will not respond.

Refuses To Shift Gears

Before this happens, however, you may notice that your transmission has problems shifting the gears. There may be extended periods of hesitation before it shifts through the gear cycle, or it may refuse to shift through the gear cycle at all.

Slips Into Neutral

A malfunctioning transmission may also have a tendency to slip into neutral while you are driving. It will be unable to stay in gear, and, consequently, your vehicle will lose power. In addition, when the transmission slips into neutral, the engine’s RPMs increase exponentially.

Leaks Transmission Fluid

The transmission can also develop a leak. Transmission fluid can leak out of a cracked transmission pan or a leaking transmission pan gasket. It can also leak out of the hoses or other seals and gaskets. Transmission fluid is red and it leaks underneath your vehicle near the center.

Overheats/Smells Hot

If you do have a transmission link, the fluid level is going to get too low. When this happens, the transmission overheats. You will smell hot odors wafting from underneath your automobile. In addition, the transmission may struggle to operate efficiently when it is too hot.

Makes Strange Noises

Another sign that your transmission is failing is if it makes strange noises. It doesn’t matter if the transmission is in gear or not. Examples of noises include humming when the transmission is in neutral and grinding when it shifts gears. It may also squeal or clunk.

Makes the Car Shake

Finally, when the transmission shifts through the gear cycle, the action should be relatively smooth. You should not have problems with your vehicle shaking or vibrating intensely when the transmission shifts the gears. If the vehicle is vibrating, head to our shop.
